Small Gasification is a process which converts organic carbonaceous materials or biomass into carbon monoxide, hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Generally gasification is reacted in a controlled vacuum starved of oxygen and so that no combustion occurs. At temperatures higher than 700°C, and without combustion in a controlled amount of oxygen syngas (from synthesis gas or synthetic gas) is created from the producer gas. The process is without a smoke stack and there are no emissions as the syngas conversion is produced in a vacuum. Syngas is an ideal fuel for CHP [Combined Heat and Power Units] derived from the gasification of renewable energy and a great way of reducing CO₂
The PowerCan® 200 2013-2016 Research and Development Program takes the PowerCan® 200 to the commercial mass production level,. PowerCan® 200 team will develop a global product an off the shelf energy solution with almost endless opportunities to make waste extinct locally, end landfill, reduce CO₂ and produce clean energy and one day even cleaner transport fuels.
What Is The Next Stage in PowerCan® Research and Development Road Map?
By developing existing static, small scale biomass gasification systems, making them lighter and more compact the new PowerCan® 200 can be located almost anywhere, but they can also be moved as the operator wishes. PowerCan® 200 never needs run out of feedstock because we almost always install them at the source of the waste. We are developing “Cocktails” around our knowledge and past success of wood-chip feedstock. This increases our feedstock capability in future and with several types of seasonal biomass as well as MSW fibres [Cellulose from Municipal Solid Waste] in mind we have many more missions available for our deployment.
There are seven modules or technologies in PowerCan® 200 they are developed and mass manufactured under OEM agreements, finally all PowerCan® 200 are assembled at the RUMIA shipyards in Gdansk which makes it a Polish product. Our 2013-2016 Research and Development Program rolls out an all new, movable, movable, elegant, commercially mass produced power plant in a 20ft can.
PowerCan® 200 is an off the shelf green energy solution like no other, it ships in two 20ft shipping containers one container houses the engine room and the second container can provide a modular mess facility [or be returned to our works]. PowerCan® 200 is different because it is plug and play. It means it goes to the source of the feedstock and when the feedstock runs out or when it is no longer commercially viable its simply redeployed somewhere else.
We have already secured orders and have a full order book for the end of 2013 for the new version of PowerCan® 200 which after the next phase of installation and testing in the field will be finally cloned and mass manufactured. The PowerCan® 200 is a local commercial and commercially operated energy solution a renewable energy solution, an ideal dispersed energy production unit which can be readily moved or relocated on even small energy networks to ensure best compatibility.
Why is PowerCan® 200 A Local Solution?
Energy security relies on dispersed [on grid] or displaced [off grid] energy production. Having many small power plants is rather favorable to few large industrial projects for a variety of reasons and because energy produced locally is consumed locally. Using local energy makes the best use of the existing infrastructure, the infrastructure we already have can have a longer much life cycle with small scale local energy solutions, unlike many other solutions and being a small power plant PowerCan® 200 can join most local grids without the need to upgrade local infrastructure.
Making waste extinct and producing energy locally is a sure way to achieve energy security, to ultimately reduce and stabilize energy costs benefits the local economy curbing inflation, creating new industry with local jobs which in turn creates and distributes wealth locally. Reducing embedded CO₂ from delivery of energy or reducing waste of distributing local electricity over huge distances reduces all manner of costs. Heat generation or locally produced clean transport fuels can quickly have a terrific impact on the local environment and its economy.
What makes PowerCan® 200 different?
PowerCan® 200 is a compact, lighter and more versatile integrated solution than any other gasification product on the market and because it is movable it can be deployed and redeployed. PowerCan® 200 is a manageable low weight gasifier it has an extremely low parasitic consumption due to the innovative gas cleaning and reforming process called the GlidArc. Gasification experts often questioned us about the parasitic value of GlidArc and we delight in advising them that it is fitted with a 1kW fuse. The technology used to convert our Man Diesel engine into a 100% syngas driven engine for CHP unit is compatible with almost any Diesel engine unit and we are pleased to share our technology to help other projects be successful.
How is PowerCan® 200 commercially viable?
The end user has no lead in time, the power unit is plug and play and off the shelf it means repayment can begin the same day it is delivered. PowerCan® 200 is a most affordable power solution at under 400,000 Euro for a complete waste to energy plant. The basic unit demonstrates a rapid repayment period anywhere in the European Union even without feed in tariffs and in less than 5 years. A static version of the PowerCan® 200 is already installed and operational on one of Europe’s largest Petro-Chemical Plants it means that it is a very safe and reliable product.
Commercial applications benefit producing their own low cost electricity, installations have far lower CO₂ emissions as a result of installing PowerCan® 200 and of course they benefit from free heat. There are so many other benefits on the application road map for many PowerCan® consumers including reduction in landfill, gains on white and green certificates and not to mention energy security, and independence and the stability of energy costs. For the regional shopping centre or district hospitals in Central Europe the PowerCan® 200 can demonstrate to repay its costs without energy subsidies within 24 months.
How is PowerCan® 200 so Innovative?
PowerCan® 200 is entirely modular it incorporates 7 technologies these are the 7 main components of a gasification system. We focus on making each of these components better more easily sourced and universally compatible. By shipping PowerCan® 200 in two movable containers a whole energy plant literally fits on one truck. Plug and play it is, and a truly innovative product unpacked and installed the same day it is delivered.
Unlike most other gasification plants PowerCan® 200 is owned and operated by or on behalf of the commercial or public entity that creates the waste and wants to produce its own low CO₂ energy. We also cluster 200kWe units to make larger modular power plants of 1MW and above depending on the availability of feedstock at any given time. The PowerCan® 200 cluster station too can be relocated in future it helps some of our clients grow their sustainable energy business.
How is PowerCan® 200 compatible with Commercial Waste?
PowerCan® 200 is already compatible with all forms of biomass and cellulose waste it will be compatible with more types of sorted commercial feedstock through our cocktail program.
PowerCan® 200 is a reliable mass produced all in one WtE [Waste to Energy Solution] for any commercial application but ideal for, hospital, campus, park or military camp. After sorting and making all local MSW extinct PowerCan® 200 can be topped up with locally produced biomass [ideally wood-chip]. PowerCan® 200 is modular and movable it can be arranged in clusters so units can be added, taken away and redeployed again and again even on the same day.
Who needs PowerCan® 200?
PowerCan® 200 is located at the source of the waste and owned [and we recommend] operated by the waste producer. This means for example an Energy Value Engineered 50,000m2 retail centre can achieve zero landfill and save as much as 25% on heat and electrical energy as soon as the unit is delivered. Retail food anchors such as Hypermarkets of 10,000 m2 and more demonstrate to achieve zero net energy on consumption of their own waste as well as achieving an almost negligible CO₂ footprint.

Will small scale gasification like PowerCan® 200 have a big impact on our society?
New power projects are smaller, dispersed energy ideals are taking over common thinking and common discussion. Increased demand on the power grid requires dispersed energy solutions because of the impact on infrastructure of centralized solutions. PowerCan® 200 is different because it is designed to be an applied energy solution operated at the source of the waste, at the shopping centre or at the district hospital it is a small scale energy solution.
PowerCan® 200 is of particular advantage to hospitals and other public installations who typically consume more heat energy than electrical energy for example a typical district hospital consumes at 3:1 [three heat to one electricity]. The PowerCan® 200 can be a commercial success solely on the electricity it produces. But we must not forget we have significant free heat which can even assist hospitals to be very economical to achieve almost zero net energy from local wood-chip to subsidize their own MSW. Many hospitals in Europe already converted their energy supply to CHP and upgrading to synthesis gas from a “Waste to Energy” solution is the logical next step forward.
Hospitals sort waste at its source to reduce contamination and they typically produce 97% uncontaminated MSW this is in contrast to the 3% hazardous waste that they produce. Hospitals mass produce ideal cocktail feedstock for the PowerCan® 200. The PowerCan® 200 can be owned and operated on site at the hospital to produce safe, valuable electricity and heat from waste.
Power distribution companies considering operating PowerCan® 200 for the hospital can have a significant advantage over other energy competitors. Tendering and operating PowerCan® 200 for hospitals is profitable and it is possible to finance such projects on energy savings with little risk under typical EU tender procedure
How does PowerCan® 200 benefit the environment and save on CO₂ emissions?
Being located at the source of waste, and having negligible emission PowerCan® 200 significantly reduces CO₂. One PowerCan® 200 produces 200kWe of electricity and 260kWth of heat in the extinction of 4 tons of MSW daily. Making waste extinct locally means no more embedded CO₂ unlike sending waste off to be processed elsewhere. By using heat and electricity locally far less energy and line losses occur.
Every year each PowerCan® 200 saves the environment 1460 tons of landfill. In producing 1752 MW of electricity it saves 1578 tons of CO₂ and produces a lot of free heat. PowerCan® 200 RUMIA Remontowa Group partners have the capacity to roll out hundreds of new PowerCan® 200 units every year
How does PowerCan® 200 create jobs?
The production of each PowerCan® 200 requires the services of many highly qualified steel welders, platers, fitters and painters. But the application of each PowerCan® 200 can create many more jobs too by stimulating the local economy. Energy produced and used locally means the creation and distribution of wealth remains local.
The gasifier vessel and the special gas cooling devices included in the PowerCan® 200 are a first class steel plate and stainless steel technical innovation designed, tested and to be built by highly qualified engineers and craftsmen at RUMIA Gdansk. The Gdansk ship yards provides all the technical expertise to make, test and export PowerCan® 200 worldwide and this successful partnership generates much new employment for the region.
