Since “Moonlight” has been a tremendous success in rural Cambodia Jim Gramberg and his team have now been given the “green light” for international expansion to ensure long term product sustainability and growth. The SOLIDEA global team are primarily looking to find new markets in West and Central Africa for Moonlight.
The “Moonlight” is manufactured by Kamworks it is being promoted as a children’s homework light it gives light to thousands of young Cambodians where there was none, Moonlight is a big hit with adults too and as the project manufactures Moonlight in rural Cambodia it provides work and an important role model to the local economy.
We think many companies might consider giving “Moonlight” to children in poor countries and especially in much of Africa where there is no grid. We are looking at ways of getting some of the rapidly expanding telecommunication networks on board in Africa says SOLIDEA’s Steve Walker as a lot of Africa have mobile phones but no access to the power grid. We have an idea to modify Moonlight as a mobile phone charging device and where if it is useful to adults during the day it can be used by children and families at night for lighting.
Jim Grambergs team are product professionals they spent extra ordinary time to develop Moonlight to what it is today. “Moonlight is an exceptional piece of kit that can have all kinds or uses”, says Janusz Przeorek the President of SOLIDEA who has already nick named Moonlight the “Swiss Army Light”. Moonlight is also an exceptional project because its manufactured in a poor rural area where it positively educates and stimulates the local economy.
Moonlight might be integrated into all kinds of every day applications even in Central and Eastern Europe where a child’s safety light might have an application; thousands of children are at risk on the roadside at nights in Central, Eastern and Northern Europe, we think with the right product sponsorship Moonlight might have an educational and safety application here too.
With a cigarette type lighter socket integrated into the existing case Moonlight can become a universal phone charger says Roland Montagnan head of the SOLIDEA team in the Ivory Coast, the unit will be very welcome on the local market and can be an instant success if distributed and sold to the phone Kiosks with their extensive outlets in the Ivory Coast, Ghana and Burkina Faso
Phone charging application is definitely on our road map says Jim Gramberg and we are looking for the brand or distributor sponsorship for R&D and to adapt the case and integrate the phone charger into our next model. We think that Moonlight can have a terrific impact on local education in Central and West Africa just as it has here in Cambodia
A Moonlight costs around 25 USD per unit and can change a families life.
SOLIDEA are looking to integrate their global renewable energy solutions in Cambodia and are supporting the Moonlight team for some larger energy projects. SOLIDEA are active in Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Ghana in a range of Renewable Energy projects including Telecommunication, Small Scale Utility and Corporate Social Responsibility.
